NTA 2019: Prakash Javadekar, Union HRD minister of India, on 7th of July 2018 (saturday) announced that the newly constituted National Testing Agency (NTA) would startconducting NEET, JEE (Mains) NET, CMAT and GPAT entrance exams, which are currently organised by the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE), from the upcoming academic session of  2019. Addressing to the media, the minister said the National Eligibility Test (NET) would be conducted in December, the JEE (Mains) would be conducted in January and April, and NEET would be held in February and May for the upcoming academic session. Students can appear for JEE and NEET twice a year and the best score will be considered for admission.  The Official Website of National Testing Agency is nta.ac.inHowever, the JEE (Advanced) will continue to be conducted by the IITs. Highlight of the announcement made by the Union HRD minister
Below are some important points that the HRD misnister has quoted in his announcement.
  • All the above mentioned exams would be computer-based and that students can practice at home or at authorised computer centres free of cost. The format would be immune to cheating and leaks since it’s computer-based.
  • The syllabus, question format, language and fees won't change. Each exam will be conducted on four to five dates.
  • NTA will establish a network of test practice centres for students of rural areas so that everyone will have an opportunity to practice before the exam. Schools/engineering colleges with computer centres would be identified and kept open on Saturday/Sunday starting from 3rd week of August. Any student can use the facility free of charge.

JEE MAIN: Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) Main is conducted for admission of candidates into B.E./B.Tech. course available in different engineering colleges of India. The candidate who qualifies the exam can take admission into 18 IIITs, 19 GFTIs and 32 NITs whereas if a candidate is desiring to take admission in ISM or IIT then he/she has to qualify JEE Advanced.

NEET: NEET is a national level medical entrance exam which is conducted for admission into MBBS, BDS & Ayush course across the medical colleges of India. Earlier, NEET was usually conducted by CBSE.

UGC-NET:  UGC NET determines the eligibility of Indian candidates for Assistant Professor or for Junior Research Fellowship & Assistant Professor both. Junior Research Fellowship awardees will be eligible to pursue research in their postgraduate subject from IITs or other national organizations. Such candidates are also eligible for the post of Assistant professor in Indian colleges/Universities.

CMAT: CMAT is a national level entrance test conducted for admission to MBA and PGDM programmes in the B-School of India.  Aspirants must be an Indian citizen and a holder of the graduate degree of minimum three years from any recognised Indian Institute to be eligible for CMAT exam.

GPAT: GPAT is a national level entrance examination for entry into M.Pharm programmes. This test facilitates institutions to select suitable Pharmacy graduates for admission into the Master’s (M.Pharm) program. The GPAT score is accepted by all AICTE-Approved Institutions / University Departments / Constituent Colleges/Affiliated Colleges. A few scholarships and other financial assistance in the field of Pharmacy are also given on the basis of the GPAT score.
